Is Supreme Court shielding INSANE JUDGES? Did a bench headed by CJI Dattu rule against giving RTI information about judges' medical expenses on Thursday, to prevent the public from knowing which judges take prescription-drugs for MENTAL ILLNESSES? Or Alzheimer's disease? Or Bipolar Disorder? It is statistically impossible to have a 100% perfect population of judges. In the face of continuous provocation by Markandeya Katju, why is Chief Justice Dattu silent and passive? if there is no substance in the retired SC judge's allegations, why isn't any action being taken against him? Why no Contempt of Court so far? Through his blog, http://justicekatju.blogspot.in/, Katju has been continually baiting Dattu, the establishment and also mainstream journalists for not investigating the issue based on his documents. It is easy to write this off as Katju's attention-seeking behaviour. But let us look deeper. His allegations are that the Chief Justice of India is a blatantly corrupt man who has amassed wealth by currying favour with the government, and by breaking laws. Can we as a nation afford to take such allegations lightly? If these allegations are true, impeach the Chief Justice of India. And if they are frivolous and unsubstantiated, then haul Katju (along with other critics like myself) over the coals. Let justice be seen to be done...

The present judicial system has long-term failure written into its DNA. It seems to throw up only short-sighted pygmies as Chief Justice of India -- men who don't feel sufficiently responsible and empowered to change the system. And so our Chief Justices just hold hearings and routinely plod along till they retire. Their only aspiration is to get a prestigious post-retirement government naurkri. This is a key reason for the continuous decline in our judiciary's performance. C hief Justices are not supposed to be pen-pushers. They are supposed to have a GRAND VISION of justice, the BIG PICTURE of the entire judicial system. Theirs is one of the most powerful jobs in the country. They are given the responsibility and independence to correct the bad practices of the past, to ensure that justice reaches the common man. The Chief Justice of India needs to break his sphinx-like silence and speak up. Is Justice Karnan an RTI activist and whistleblower who has exposed a major fraud by Justice Dhanapalan, and also exposed a flaw in the judicial selection system? Or is he a quarrelsome and cantankerous person who has lost his sense of judgment? C S Karnan recently asked CBI to inquire into the educational qualificati ons Justice V Dhanapalan -- a brother-judge in Madras High Court. In a signed letter addressed to the joint director of CBI in Chennai, Justice Karnan alleged that bogus qualifications were shown by Justice Dhanapalan. He is supposed to have studied at Dr Ambedkar Government Law College from 1980 to 1983, enrolled as an advocate in the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu, and obtained a master's degree in law from University of Madras in 1987. Judiciary is like a bus full of monkeys speeding on the highway of India's democracy. Various monkeys are in charge of the accelerator, brakes and steering wheel, and those chief monkeys retire very soon after they assume office. So who is responsible for the overall conduct of this "independent judiciary", and the many casualties that it causes on the highway of democracy? Nobody! No one can be held responsible.

S Rajendra Babu, former Chief Justice of India, said, “Many of our poor fellow citizens have chosen to avoid courts and other legal systems rather than face intimidation, cost and time-loss in legal proceedings.” But it’s not only the poor! Even the middle-classes and the well-to-do have made up their mind that GOING TO COURT IS NOT A REALISTIC OPTION. Most people go to court in the heat of the moment, or they are given false hopes by lawyers. But they soon realize that they  have walked into a quicksand. They realize that there is MORE INJUSTICE IN COURT. A few people get sucked into an ENDLESS CYCLE OF COMPLAINING against lawyers and judges, and multiplying litigations in response to their sufferings in court. The government is the country’s single biggest & wealthiest litigant. It routinely offers senior judges and chief justices (who are usually nearing their retirement age) prestigious and lucrative posts. Most recently, retired CJI P Sathasivan was appointed Governor of Kerala. He had been openly hinting that he wanted a post-retirement job from the government.
